    Factores sociodemográficos asociados al oficio de estudiante universitario

    El trabajo presenta resultados parciales de un estudio de investigación que se ha propuesto describir la composición del oficio de estudiante a partir del análisis de las características que constituyeron sus principales rasgos en la universidad de gestión privada de la República Argentina en el marco de la pandemia. En el análisis se ha ponderado el conocimiento ofrecido a partir del estudio de las trayectorias biográficas, ocupacionales y académicas de los y las estudiantes de nivel de carreras de educación del nivel de grado de la Universidad Abierta Interamericana (UAI). En este avance se analizan las variables sociodemográficas que contextualizaron el oficio de estudiar, así como también su incidencia. Entre los factores salientes en torno al desarrollo del oficio de estudiar se han destacado la incidencia del trabajo, de las relaciones sociales, la organización de los espacios y los tiempos en el hogar.

    La respuesta de las Oficinas de Relaciones Internacionales de universidades argentinas ante la crisis de la pandemia

    La pandemia de COVID-19, a principios de 2020, impulsó a las instituciones de educación superior a asumir una serie de desafíos sin precedentes. Las actividades de docencia e investigación en las universidades y otras instituciones de enseñanza superior tuvieron que adaptarse a la nueva realidad de distanciamiento social y encierro, situación mayormente resuelta a través de la educación remota de emergencia. Aunque la adaptación fue mayormente exitosa y gestionada profesionalmente, los retos administrativos causados por el cierre de fronteras y economías semi-congeladas plantearon innumerables desafíos. Por ejemplo, las cancelaciones de vuelos paralizaron las movilidades y dejaron varados fuera de casa a estudiantes, investigadores y profesores, a menudo en situaciones de angustia financiera y emocional. Así, las Oficinas de Relaciones Internacionales (ORIs) de las universidades se vieron frente a un sinnúmero de demandas no habituales en sus rutinas diarias. De alguna manera podría decirse que las universidades actuaron de manera resiliente, aprovechando la situación de cierto caos en búsqueda de nuevas oportunidades de acción. El siguiente análisis se basa en un trabajo de investigación ya realizado y publicado, en el cual se seleccionaron seis universidades, tres públicas y tres privadas, tomando en cuenta su grado de internacionalización, definido en función del número de alumnos no locales en cada una. Asimismo, se consideró su ubicación geográfica con el objetivo de que la muestra resultase lo más representativa posible.

    This open access book assesses how the covid-19 pandemic caught higher education systems throughout the world by surprise. It maps out the responses of higher education institutions to the challenges and strategic opportunities brought about by the pandemic and examines the effects such responses may have. Bringing together scholars and case studies from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, the book is both comparative and global in nature. It also brings together researchers from a variety of disciplinary fields, including political scientists, historians, economists, sociologist, and anthropologists. In doing so, the book fosters an interdisciplinary dialogue and inclusive methodological approach for unpacking the complexities associated with modern higher education systems and institutions

    The internationalization of higher education during the first year of covid-19

    In 2020, higher education institutions faced an unprecedented challenge: how to continue internationalization processes and student mobility despite a sudden and complete disruption of international travel. When the Covid-19 pandemic began, almost 6 million international students outside their country of origin were affected by the closure of national borders and the suspension of face-to-face instruction. This article comparatively analyses the effects of the pandemic on international student mobility in different regions. It also describes different public policies and institutional responses in selected countries.

    The state and its role in the internationalisation process of higher education in Argentina and the reaction to COVID-19

    The internalisation of higher education is a growing phenomenon of great interest not only to universities but also nations and governments. Developed nations are the main receptors of international students and researchers. As a matter of fact, 80% of all enrollees around the globe migrate from peripheral countries to industrialized centers to continue their education. In the case of Argentina, only 1% of all non-local students chose the country as an academic destination and over 90% of that group comes from Latin America. Thus, it can be said that in terms of internationalisation, Argentina and the region, reproduce themselves under a pattern of endogamy. The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the policies implemented by the Argentine State to develop and strengthen the internationalisation of higher education in the country. In order to do this, several interviews were conducted with key actors at different public organizations. A description of the response given by universities and the State to internationalisation processes in the face of COVID-19 is also provided.
